The Opportunity
Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of Music from September 2026. This is a part-time position (0.8 FTE) for 12 months in the first instance, with flexibility for candidates seeking a reduced timetable or a job-share arrangement.
The successful applicant will be a well-qualified, highly motivated and innovative musician with excellent subject knowledge and the ability to confidently teach up to Key Stage 4. The ability to teach Key Stage 5 is desirable, but not essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to inspire students through creative teaching methods and promoting musical excellence across the school. The role includes an active part in the department’s extensive co curricular programme, contributing enthusiastically to the wide range of ensembles, performances and musical opportunities that are central to the School’s cultural life and to the delivery of an exceptional Music education.

Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high quality Music teaching, ensuring students are well prepared for external examinations and supported to achieve their full potential.
• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging lessons that stretch all learners and contribute to the development of departmental schemes of work and resources.
• Plan and contribute to concerts and ensembles as part of the extensive performance calendar.
• Assess, track and report on student progress, providing clear feedback to pupils, parents and colleagues to support academic development.
• Uphold the school’s ethos and responsibilities, including safeguarding, and maintaining high standards of behaviour
The Department
The Music department fosters emotional intelligence, discipline, creativity and cognitive growth. Through perseverance and expression, students develop self-awareness, motivation and unique perspectives that shape confident, capable and empathetic individuals.
Alongside curriculum music, each student has the opportunity to garner the skills passed on by an outstanding team of visiting music teachers in one-to-one lessons. During the academic year there are around 16 concerts that students are encouraged to take part in, 7 annual competitions for all instrumental and vocal departments plus the chance of performing in the prestigious Haberdashers’ Young Musician of the Year in London.
About You
You will be a highly qualified and accomplished musician, holding a degree in Music or Music Education, and demonstrating a proven commitment to excellence in teaching across Key Stage 3 and 4. With strong classroom management, you foster an aspirational and engaging musical environment in which all pupils are supported to achieve their full potential.
Professional, collaborative and adaptable, you communicate with clarity and purpose, uphold the highest standards of pastoral care, and contribute thoughtfully to the broader life and ethos of the School, including its safeguarding responsibilities.
