Science Technician

Required from January 2027, Bolton School is seeking to appoint a Science Technician to work across the Boys’ Division and Girls’ Division Senior Schools, providing effective technical and practical support to staff and students during science lessons.

The role involves preparing equipment and materials for practical lessons, setting up demonstrations as required, delivering resources to teaching areas, and ensuring that appropriate health and safety procedures, hazard warnings, and safety instructions are implemented and followed at all times.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of all the sciences, have excellent time management skills, the ability to work as part of a team, prioritise tasks whilst maintaining a flexible approach to the working day.

Experience of working in a laboratory, along with working as a school science technician is desirable but not essential, as is knowledge of maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.

This is a permanent role and the hours of work will be 35 hours per week, term time plus an additional 10 days to be worked in the holidays.

With some 2,500 pupils, Bolton School is a large, thriving, academically selective day school. It is situated a mile or so from the town centre in a stunning 32 acre campus and is within easy reach of some of the nation’s finest cities and countryside.

In Autumn 2021, significant changes were made to the leadership structure of the School Foundation, investing the newly created position of Head of Foundation with overall responsibility. Within the new structure, there are three sections: Girls’ Division, Boys’ Division and Primary Division. A Head of each Division and the Head of Foundation, together with the Clerk and Treasurer, are the Foundation’s Senior Officers; they are directly accountable to the Governors.

Two adjoining and similar buildings, now attached by a state-of-the art Sixth Form Centre, house the Boys’ and Girls’ Senior Schools, each of which provides a traditional academic education from the age of 11 years. The Primary Division includes separate Junior Schools for boys and girls from the age of 7 and a co-educational Infant School and Nursery.

An attractive salary and benefits package are available. For further details and to apply online for the position, please visit the School website at LINK
