The Opportunity
Haberdashers' Monmouth School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic French Horn Teacher for September 2026 to teach approximately 5 students at varying levels.
Peripatetic teachers are required to plan and deliver 35-minute lessons to pupils between the ages of 7 and 18 and, where appropriate, to liaise with the pupil's music teacher in preparation for GCSE and A Level exams.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging 35-minute lessons to pupils of varying ability in your subject / instrument
- Produce a weekly timetable for allocated pupils and maintain an accurate register
- Assess, track and report on student progress, providing clear feedback following school reporting guidelines
- Support the music co-curricular calendar but encouraging pupils to be part of relevant concerts and musical activities
- Where appropriate liaise with a pupil's music teacher in preparation for GCSE and A Level performance modules
- Uphold the school's ethos and responsibilities, including safeguarding and maintaining high standards of behaviour
The Department
The Music department fosters emotional intelligence, discipline, creativity and cognitive growth. Through perseverance and expression, students develop self-awareness, motivation and unique perspectives that shape confident, capable and empathetic individuals.
Alongside curriculum music, each student has the opportunity to garner the skills passed on by an outstanding team of visiting music teachers in one-to-one lessons. During the academic year there are around 16 concerts that students are encouraged to take part in, 7 annual competitions for all instrumental and vocal departments plus the chance of performing in the prestigious Haberdashers’ Young Musician of the Year in London.
About You
With a genuine passion for music, you will have the ability to teach pupils of all abilities with enthusiasm and energy. Organised and adaptable, you will ideally have experience in teaching in a school environment. You will bring excellent communication skills and a commitment to raising student's musical achievements teamed with an interest in and a willingness to support all school musical activities.
